Home | ![]() BEATIFICATION Virtual Since our travel arrangements couldn't be changed, we went to Rome anyway and participated in the Beatifications of two other candidates. < One was a German-born American nun, Mother Marianne Cope, from Syracuse, New York. She worked with Father Damien for the lepers of Molokai. The second was a nun, Ascension Nicol Goni, who founded an Order in Peru. (Of course, we were looking forward to Brother Charles' turn!) Cardinal Sodano presided at the Beatification ceremony for the two nuns. It took place in St. Peter's Basilica on Pentecost Sunday, May 15, 2005. Our five priests participated in the Procession. In foreground, Fr. Peter Clarke, Fr. Lennie Tighe, and Fr. Jim O'Donnell. In lefthand line the tall man is Fr. Jim deVore; second priest behind him, his brother Fr. Gerry deVore.
Nearby was the final resting place of the Holy Father, John Paul II. A few of us managed to glimpse it, and Dorothy got close enough for a photo. That part of St. Peter's Basilica was the most crowded place in Rome.
Another day, Father Lennie took us to . . .
